Mirabilis jalapa - Four-o'clock Flower, Marvel-of-Peru

This herbaceus perennial grows slender stems to about 1 m tall from an underground tuber, with soft, simple leaves and masses of scented, pink, red, white or yellow flowers that only open late in the day. Mirabilis jalapa is native from Mexico to the Andes in South America. It is highly adaptable in cultivation and grows in a wide variety of climates from the tropics to temperate regions, where its tubers survive underground if well mulched.
