Costus curvibracteatus - Orange Tulip Ginger

This wonderful spiral ginger is native to montane rainforests and cloud forests from Nicaragua to Colombia between 600 and 2100 m. The thick shoots hold numerous, broad leaves in a spiraling fashion and terminate in a spectacularly colored inflorescence with recurving bracts that are usually red with a pronounced yellow tip. In cultivation it adapts to many climates from cool tropical to warm temperate.
